The Third VOICES Film Festival ended on the 10th of July. The Closing Ceremony was held in the "Lenkom" cinema. The Jury deliberated and named the Winning Film, receiving the Grand Prize. This year it is the film by Axel Petersen "Avalon."

Swedish writer-director Axel Petersen’s feature debut Avalon [pictured] was the big winner at the third edition of the VOICES film festival (July 6-10) in Russia’s Vologda, picking up the Grand Prix and Best Actor honours for male lead Johannes Brost.

One of the big Soviet musical hits was a song about the city of Vologda. There were a few lines in the chorus, which loosely translated read:
Where are you, my dark-eyed beloved?
Where in Vologda can I find you?
Where, oh where, in Vologda?

The organizers of the VOICES Film Festival present the Jury. The Jury members include famous European cinematographers who will decide which of 9 films from the competition program will be the winner . This year the winner of the VOICES Film Festival Grand Prize will receive 15,000 euro (10,000 for the film director and 5,000 euro will go to the film distributor in Russia).

The reconstruction of a windmill for Fort Ross has been almost completed in the Vologda region in northwestern Russia. Craftsmen have tested all its mechanisms and are preparing to send it to the U.S. The windmill will produce flour from grains like it did 200 years ago and remind of the Russian settlement in America.
